Platelet Rich Plasma Facial
Take advantage of your own, innate healing ability to rejuvenate the skin
What is Platelet Rich Plasma Facial?
Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a treatment which takes advantage of our own, innate healing ability to promote tissue growth, proliferation and repair. A blood sample is extracted from a patient in a specialised container and processed in a centrifuge. This isolates our PRP (plasma, platelets and growth factors) and removes potentially inflammatory chemicals.
This plasma can be injected into a target site to promote stem cell proliferation and vascular formation, which increases collagen and elastin production. This process rejuvenates the desired tissue and has a broad range of therapeutic applications.
PRP is effective when performed alone or can be used in combination with other treatments to maximize results.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take to see results?
For cosmetic treatments, patients often notice brighter and more radiant skin within days, the collagen stimulation continues for up to six weeks leading to progressively healthier and younger looking skin.
Is the treatment once off or are several treatments required?
Best results are seen when the treatment is done as a series of three sessions once a month with a top-up treatment done every 6-12 months thereafter.
Can PRP be used to treat acne scars?
PRP is very effective in improving the appearance of acne scarring. For optimum results it may be combined with microneedling. You clinician in the Galway Skin Clinic will help you in choosing a treatment plan which is best for your own personal needs.
Is there any downtime?
The area treated will appear red following treatment and there may be some minor bruising. Clients should avoid swimming, saunas, UV exposure and vigorous exercise for 2 days following the treatment. Alcohol, caffeine and certain medication should be avoided for at least three days
I’m a smoker, is PRP the right treatment for me?
PRP is an investment, many of the growth factors we rely on are inhibited by smoking. This is why smoking causes premature aging of the skin. We would strongly encourage and support our clients in stopping smoking as the first step in improving their overall skin health.
